๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ - the heat of the past

๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ her eyes ahead as she followed close behind Matt, Jessica and Luke on their tail, after all, Liv and Matt were the ones with super senses. As they made their way down a set of stairs the sound of footsteps hit her ears and without much thought she came to a stop and grabbed Matt's arm, stilling him. Jessica, not quite prepared for the abrupt stop had to grasp her friend's shoulders in order to not send them all to the ground. "What is it?" The P.I questioned her partner in crime.
"We aren't alone."
"How many?" Luke questioned the pair upfront as they listened intently.
Matt was the first to respond, turning his head slightly. "Three. Armed."
"Just three?"
"Not just any three," Matt concluded as he finished making his way down the steps.
Olivia's eyes flickered to the door on the other side of the room, it was the only way out so they had no choice but to fight. She drifted her eyes round the room, two cars and a load of cinderblocks that littered the ground, they could be useful.
The wolf clicked her neck as she hopped off the stairs, taking slow steps until she joined Matt's side, Jessica and Luke joining them straight after. The Hale observed the opponents opposite them and something inside of her stirred as she made eye contact with the eldest; the only woman. Olivia knew her, she just didn't know how.
Matt's face remained stoic; a small twitch of anger visible at the corner of his lips as he spoke in a low, threatening tone that might just have made the wolf shiver, that is, if she hadn't of known what adorable doe brown eyes rested beneath his red mask. "We're here for Danny Rand."
The woman in the middle of the two men cocked her head lightly as she leaned on her cane. She had an air of authority about her, as did her voice; calm and strong. "The Iron Fist belongs to us."
Olivia chuckled as she felt her claws begin to make an appearance. "We're not leaving until we have Danny."
The wolf rose a brow as one of the men withdrew a sword, did everybody use swords nowadays? Was she the only one not to get the memo that they were no longer in Hell's Kitchen, but rather in Westeros?
The man lowered his sword into a fighting stance, slowly, dramatically as he smirked. "Then I guess you're not leaving."
That was all it took for everybody to get into their own 'Fighting stances'. Olivia lowered herself slightly, knees bent as she willed her wolf side to come out and play. Her claws grew longer as her teeth grew sharper and slowly but surely, her face morphed, half beast, half human.
The group of four 'supers' shared looks, well, Olivia, Jessica, and Luke did. Each nodding, they were ready, they were a team and they were going to save Danny.
For a moment, all was silent. The older woman glanced at the Hales claws and rose her eyes to the wolf's face, a small twitch licked at her lips.
Then all hell broke loose. The older woman threw out a hand, sending a pile of cinder blocks towards the group. Matt took his chance to leap over them and Olivia threw out one of her legs, the cinderblocks collided on impact and the wolf shielded her eyes from the dust and rock that exploded everywhere. With a growl, the Hale grasped a cinderblock in each hand and launched them towards the woman with the cane who had been watching them fight.
The woman once again threw out her hand and sent the blocks backward. Olivia's throat rumbled as the woman opposite her made eye contact and began to slowly walk forward. The wolf ignored the rest of the fight around her as she approached the woman. "Who are you."
The woman chuckled, the sound was almost patronizing as if she pitied the woman for not realizing wh she was and what she had done. "Do you remember the Nogitsune?"
Olivia stilled. Of course she did. The Nogitsune was a being that possessed people for one sole reason; to create chaos and fear which it then would feed on. It had possessed one of the teenagers back home. It had used him to kill, to hurt his friends... It was the reason two of their friends had been killed. "Of course I do."
The woman was calm, the complete opposite to Olivia whose heart rate had almost doubled at the mention of the dark spirit, those were the days she still dreamt about, had nightmares about.
"It was not the children nor the Darach that freed the spirit, we needed to test it, we needed to see if we could control it. We released it."
Olivia recoiled at the women's words, her hands began to shake as anger flooded her body, the anger she had always fought so hard to control. Not today.
Olivia's voice lowered as her eyes narrowed. "Children died."
"Children you did not save."
The wolf's eyes became illuminated, a cold cobalt blue glowing in the dim room and she let her monstrous side erupt. She bore her fangs as the low rumble bubbled on her tongue before a roar of both anger and anguish burst out of her lungs, shaking the floor beneath them.
Matt paused, the roar reaching his eardrums like a smack to the face and he recoiled slightly, luckily he stumbled far enough to dodge the blade one of the men has slashed towards him.
The Hale sent her fists forward in a flurry of indecipherable movements, but the woman was almost as fast as she, ducking and dodging almost every strike like a well-practiced dance. The angrier Olivia got, the calmer the older woman seemed to become, it was a game to her, just as it had been for the Nogitsune.
And so, Olivia paused her attacks to try and quash her anger that always seemed to get the better of the Hale's and the old woman -who must have been half fucking psychic- saw the gap in her onslaught of punches and threw her hand forward, a shockwave sending Olivia crashing through another pile of cinderblocks. Cuts and scrapes littered her bare arms before healing, as if nothing ever happened, only small splotches of blood left in their wake.
As she took a quick moment to make sure her friends were still, you know, alive. She could see that both Jess and Luke were on one of the men and Matt and the girl with the sword she had met the day prior were fighting the other man who was swinging his sword with precision.
Her gaze snapped back to the woman in front of her. Olivia pushed herself up as another snarl spilled from her mouth. As she stalked forward her eyes were so focused on the women's movements that she hadn't noticed the two men make their way back to the center of the room.
One of the men shouted something in Japanese, something Olivia didn't understand and therefore ignored as she continued forward, assessing the older woman, trying to find a weakness.
It was then that a shrill hiss filled the air and a blast of gas gushed into Olivia's face, invading her senses. Her head went fuzzy and her eyes blurred as she coughed violently into her hand and not a second later, the man with the large sword swiped his blade against the ground. Sparks fluttered into the air from the friction and the moment they mixed with the gas, bright amber flames erupted.
Jessica, Luke, and Colleen stared on in horror and Matt's heart pounded as a harrowing scream of pain escaped Olivia.
"Olivia!" Jessica yelled in fear. Her voice echoing off of the walls as her eyes widened, this snapped Luke out of his gaze and he rushed over to the pipe that was spewing out the gas and covered it with his large hand, crushing it as he did.
She dropped to the ground the second unbearable heat wrapped around her arms and neck. Memories of the house fire flickered inside of her head, the memory of seeing her mother scream for her to run as the flames gripped her. Her breathing was rapid, her chest heaving as she tried her hardest to inhale and exhale her way through her fear.
Her skin was bright red, her arms were covered in blisters from where she had tried to shield her face and the smell of burning skin filled the room, causing Luke, Matt, and Colleen to turn away with a grimace. But Jessica couldn't move. She knew what had happened to the wolf's family, she knew fire was something the woman never wanted to be near.
The wolf panted heavily from her fetal position the ground, her claws were digging into the palms of her hands, spilling blood as she clenched them to direct the feeling of pain away from her burning flesh.
Jessica ran over to her friend, skidding to the ground as her eyes locked onto the wolf's blistering arms. "Jesus... Liv?"
The wolf didn't move, she shivered despite the heat that bubbled on her flesh. Olivia heaved a breath as she flinched away from Jessica's touch. She pushed herself onto all fours, her breaths making clouds of dust part on the ground beneath her and slowly, incredibly slowly, the red, searing burns on her skin faded, becoming lighter with every second as the cells struggled to replace themselves.
She swallowed heavily as she began to stand on her shaking knees, her eyes were still tightly shut as she re-lived what had happened. Oranges and yellows that were brighter than the sun dance around her head like a never-ending nightmare and with every flicker, pain pulsated within the still healing skin of her arms.
Her whole body shook as she finally allowed her eyes to flutter open, the vibrant blue had been replaced by the familiar whiskey-brown and the rest of her wolfish features had disappeared only. Jessica swallowed as she stared at the wolf, her eyes were full of fear and defeat, something she had never seen within her friend.
"Liv," Jessica spoke in a hushed tone, it was soft and caring, a tone not many had the pleasure to hear and that alone snapped Olivia out of her pained daze.
Olivia turned to the group as she unclenched her now aching jaw. Luke offered her a small smile, as did Colleen. Matt offered the girl a nod and Jessica was stood in front of her, brows furrowed and the corners of her lips pointed down.
She couldn't stand the pitying looks, especially the one from Jessica, her friend, the one who knew the insides and outs of the Hale fire, who knew the reason the mighty wolf cowered in terror.
Liv lowered her gaze to her shaking and blistered hands, her voice coming out strained and hoarse as her chest continued to rise and fall with every heavy breath. "They're gone."
Jessica, knowing the Hale didn't want the attention on her any longer, sobered her face and spun to face Colleen. "What's in the bag?"
The woman tore her gaze from the trembling wolf, and forced whatever comment she had wanted to make back down her throat before she gathered up the bag and sword with a huff as she breezed past the P.I. "I'm here to save Danny and make sure no one gets hurt ever again."
"How does that answer my question?"
"We have to go," Colleen responded, not bothering to answer the P.I as she brushed forward.
Olivia sighed and shook her head, following behind the woman with the sword, her ears perking up at the sound of an approaching car. Her brows furrowed as Misty and Claire stepped out, the latter rushing towards Luke. "What happened here?"
Luke glanced at Olivia and the woman rose a brow back, they deserved to know, to be honest, sure she'd prefer if he left out the fact that she was almost turned into a chargrilled wolf, for the second time.
"No time to explain." Luke settled with, earning a brow raise and a slight scowl from both of the newcomers.
Misty scoffed as she looked over them all, her eyes catching onto the wolfs still shaking hands. "Like hell there isn't." She moved her unimpressed look over to the indestructible man after receiving a scowl from Olivia. "You got a minute before the full force of the NYPD is here. So I need you to answer this fast..." Her stern look slowly faded into a small smile. "How long do you want me to stall 'em?"
Olivia huffed a laugh as she shared a look with the group. She stood to the side as Misty quickly conversed with Luke and Claire before giving a firm nod and running outside.
Luke turned to face the rest of the group, his face full of determination, though his eyes pointedly stayed as far away from Olivia as possible. "We better get moving."
Olivia turned on her heel, walking back to the room that still smelt of her burning limbs. With a grimace, she opened the door they had previously been trying to get to and held it open, ushering everyone inside before walking inside herself.
"Cops are coming," Matt warned the group. Olivia could hear them too, their footsteps were hastily approaching so she quickly shut the door.
Luke paused, turning towards the door only to see Olivia tear a pipe away from the wall. "I've got it, keep going."
She slid the pipe through the door handle and circled it around another pipe, using her strength to bend it and forced the ends together, sealing the door shut.
"Wow." Colleen breathed.
Olivia's lip twitched into a small smirk as she let the pipe go and sub-consciously rubbed her now healed arms, "Admire me later." She joked as she pushed back the thoughts and fear from earlier, deciding she would deal with them later.
The sirens became louder and the wolf no longer needed to use her enhanced senses to hear them. Tires screeched and guns cocked as she heard Misty begin to spout whatever lie she could think of to not only protect the group but also herself.
She continued running down the stairs as she heard one of the cops shake the door they had entered through and she could only hope that Misty would hold them off long enough for them to find Danny and put a stop to whatever mess of a plan the Hand had in store them.
